not really. You can defeat it with other weapons too, but you should really get those that have the highest amount of armor penetration you can get your hands on. They will make things easier and keep your losses lower. Ether Drake is all armor and hull and I think he's regenerating, so you'll want armor penetration.Or torpedos. Leave Shard alone until you have near 30k fleet power that you can afford to lose a substantial portion of. Don't settle that planet if you can help it, until you have enough to kill him.
