I used to have a 686 3" that I had beautiful wood grips on, I took them off and put rubber grips on - it felt much better. My carry gun in a .38 revolver (s&w 638), it came with rubber grips. I put some beautiful wood ones on and quickly removed/sold them. For me the difference was painful, even though the wood looks so much nicer.
