I have shot, both and ownwd both at one time. I sold the Smith, but kept the Bearcat. The 317 uses an alloy frame and cylinder, so it is about half the weight of the Bearcat. 567 posts · Joined 2007. #29 · Jan 3, 2018. Just finished reaming my Bearcat to .22 mag. It took about 15 minutes per chamber with a fresh reamer and STP for lube. I used a 20 volt drill at maybe 30 RPM, cut maybe 3/16", pulled the reamer, hit it with compressed air and added another dab of STP.
