If you have a high enough thievery level you can lockpick your way into his sanctum in his house in driftwood and take away the source of his power. This will considerebly weaken him in the caves. Carefull though, his house has a pretty hard fight prepared for you too.

Chest in Wrecker's Cave. There's a chest in the remains of a ship hull with mines that overlooks Mordus' area, how do you get in there. No teleport skills allow me to target the area. i got in there with the teleporter pyramids, you can place one on a plank if you telekinesis is high and teleport to it, just make sure you have a way back :p.
